And so the SMWi world tour begins! The global conference will be kicking things off in the UK and Dubai this month (14th-18th November) before making its way to the US, Brazil, Denmark, Canada, Kenya and Italy. Thanks to our friends at Bristol Media, Bristol is soon to become the first UK city outside London to host Social Media Week. We’ll be heading over the bridge from Wales to find out exactly what the event has in store, and those joining us can look forward to being treated to the insights, opinions and inspiration needed to jumpstart their social media strategy.
There are plenty of talks and interactive workshops to sink your teeth into over the course of the week, but here are a few that we think you’d be a fool to miss…
We may live in a data driven world, with almost infinite data at our fingertips, but many of us still don’t know how – or why – to utilise it. Luckily enough, this session will act as a 101 on Data Science, explaining why it matters, how it should be used and just how it differs from analytics. Presented by General Assembly, attendees will learn how and why to harvest their data with a winning blend of computer science, statistics, and information theory.
Monday 14th November, 18:00 – 20:00, OVO, Temple Quay | General Assembly
As brands find their voice through social media, and the amount of sponsored content available to consumers as a result continues to rocket, it can be pretty tough to know exactly what we’re looking at today. Paid-for content? Editorial? Advertorial? Fat Media’s panel looks to shed light on this, putting the evolving relationship between brands, influencers and consumers under the microscope in a bid to analyse the issues, ethical and otherwise, that it has created.
Tuesday 15th November, 14:00 – 15:30 | OVO, Temple Quay | Fat Media
We’ve all been there: trying to make a splash on social media is no mean feat and coming up with something to fill those 140 empty characters can be pretty daunting. Thankfully the guys at Valuable Content are here to share their approach and methodology to social media with an interesting case study on how Clutton Clox found their voice and won a few friends and clients in the process. If you’re a small business trying to figure out what to say, or a big one that’s looking to spice up its social media, this one’s for you.

Those attending the November meeting can expect a collaborative atmosphere to share ideas, tips and challenges, and will likely find themselves returning for inspiration in the future.
